Hello,

when I choose to TICK the box for the option `Disable Epic Proxy`, I'm no longer able to access a live log of my web request at the address `localhost:8080`. When I choose to UNTICK the box `Disable Epic Proxy`, I have again access to localhost:8080. Good, but I'm no longer able to filter browser requests by Privoxy…

Thanks for your valuable help.

Good day,

After update to latest release, I lost Umbrella button. No Adblock. “Signal a Bug” in Help menu is greyed out. It seems Mac Epic does not seem to be up to par with Windows Epic. I was considering downgrading to the now risky Epic Version 40…

Also, I don't know whether it's related or not, but I've got a file “com.Breakpad.crash_report_sender.plist”

#4 Epic Mac Bugs » Epic 2459 & Mountain Lion Spaces » 2014-11-20 14:01:42

Hello,

I have installed Epic 2459 and so far I'm happy. No ad blocking problem, no button disappearance. So far, no problem memorising my proxy choice. However, I am on Mountain Lion and I do not plan to upgrade. Especially with the latest sneaky OS X release—Yosemite—that logs pretty much everything you do on a Mac.

There is a small issue with opening several windows of Epic on different spaces in Mountain Lion. It's simply not possible. When I open a new window on another space, it simply moves me back to the initial space where the first Epic window was opened, while opening the new window. I did not have this issue with former Epic releases. I then need to slide that new window onto the next space myself. Fine. But, when, in this new window, I'm in full screen mode—through pressing a Javascript-enabled icon (in the website) allowing me to view a chart in full screen mode—then Epic never allows me to view this chart. Epic consistently brings me back to the very initial space where the first Epic window was open. As a result, it is definitely not possible to access my second Epic window, in fact the chart itself.

Also, to make things worse, the Apple menu disappears as well…

Thank you for your help…

Hi Sai, thanks for taking a fraction of your valuable time into testing Privoxy with Epic. Frankly, I don't know what to say. I guess the issue is solely linked to my own experience. Anyhow, I stop bothering you with this matter. I keep an eye on new releases of Epic, though.

#6 Re: Epic Mac Bugs » Recurring Bug in 38.0.2125.111: Epic never quits normally! » 2014-11-06 17:52:51

Hi Sai,

I use Privoxy. After installation, set 127.0.0.1:8118 both for HTTP(S) in OS X Preference Panel/Network/Proxy

I still have the log file issued from Epic crash when one quits the app. If you like, I can send it to your hiddenreflex e-mail address. Would you like me to send it to you?

Thank you,

#7 Re: Epic Mac Bugs » Recurring Bug in 38.0.2125.111: Epic never quits normally! » 2014-11-05 15:54:11

Hello,

I'm back after testing. I confirm the two issues I repetitively mentioned with Epic:
1) Epic does no longer block ads.
2) Epic always crashes when quitting the app.

In fact, there is a third one, I already mentioned but still not resolved:
3) Epic persistently falls back to using its own proxy even though I told him not to. Indeed, I need to delete one of the two files—can't remember which one exactly: “unified.crx” or “current_href.crx” By doing so, I eliminate this persistent bug that prevents me from using my own web filtering proxy.

As a result, combining these three points, makes Epic not usable on Mac OS. I also have the log file when Epic crashed, but the forum does not let me to upload any file at all.

Thanks for your support,

Palafox

Dear Support,

it seems I'm very gifted tonight! I discovered a new bug for the release 38.0.2125.111

In fact, it is a recurrent bug : the fact that the app, when I quit it, never always quits correctly. My dialog box is in french, so I do my best to translate. Message would be in English “Epic quitted in an unexpected manner”. When I relaunch Epic, I'm asked whether or not I want to restore. Problem: I don't always want to restore. When I choose not to restore, Epic never shows my group of web pages I like to see when Epic is launched!

The big issue is: I can no longer view my group of pages when Epic is starting, because Epic ALWAYS quits unexpectedly every time I choose to quit the app. As a result, relaunching Epic after such an event, never shows me with my group of pages.

You see, I don't know how you do it, but I'm face with this recurring bug—happened in prior releases, which led me to repetitively downgrade and remain to version 2453—plus, another recurring bug, which is the main and missing feature Adblock: no umbrella icon.

So, I am ready to pay you a monthly or year subscription provided you are able to correct those pesky bugs. I'm the kind of dude who is happy to pay for his privacy. My modest understanding is I feel you have poor quality control of Epic for Mac users.

As a result, I return back to Epic version 2453. Please, let me know when these two above-mentioned pesky bugs have corrected once and for all.

Attention, warning, stop! See the result of Epic on me. Because I sense you're not paying enough attention to avoid repeating consistently the very same bugs through newer and newer versions, I prefer NOT to upgrade, because version 2453—the one I currently use—never closes unexpectedly and the umbrella is always presents; Adblock runs. Your lack of quality control can encourage your users not to upgrade, which could lead to a certain amount of risk…

Anyhow, be happy or not about what I said, it is my own and modest user experience and you have to seriously bear it in mind if you do feel a certain amount of respect for YOUR users.

For now, I returned to my backup to restore 2453.

Thank you for your support,

Palafox

Hello,

I don't do it on purpose but I have a gift to quickly uncover software malfunctions. So, where, in this version, is the Umbrella icon? I can see the usual three-row-bar icon to access a contextual menu, but there used to be an umbrella-like icon just on its left in the good old times. Now, when I browse any site, I do no longer see the Adblock plug-in announcing me is currently blocking 3rd-party craps.

Do you think you have forgotten to wire properly Adblock to this Epic release? For me, it seems not.

Thank you for your support,

Palafox

#12 Re: Epic Mac Bugs » Several Problems with Very Latest Release… » 2014-06-21 00:09:20

Hello Sai. Thanks for your patience and keeping me posted. Then, I guess it's probably my own “configuration” that's causing the trouble. I should have mentioned earlier, but I'm on “Mountain Lion”. Great weekend to you!

#13 Re: Epic Mac Bugs » Several Problems with Very Latest Release… » 2014-06-14 22:26:13

Thanks very much for doing the test on your end.

#14 Re: Epic Mac Bugs » Several Problems with Very Latest Release… » 2014-06-13 23:11:54

Issue 3.

I make sure “Disable Epic Proxy” is properly ticked. This suggests that Epic falls back to my basic network configuration set under OS X System Preferences. In there, through the Network panel and its corresponding Proxy tabs, I have my local web filtering proxy set to 127.0.0.1:8118 both for HTTP and HTTPS.

For reasons not known to me, Epic tries to return to is own proxy after a “certain amount of use of Epic”, thus disregarding my proxy. I can see this, because there's a red “something” next to the “star” icon.  When I say “certain amount of use”, it's a very vague way to tell you that the problem might also be linked to some specific websites. Maybe, Epic is triggered to return to its own proxy when a specific website visit or action is taken. I don't know. But the fact remains: I need to return to Epic Parameters and tick again “Disable Epic Proxy” after this “certain amount of use”.

That's the explanation, hopefully detailed enough.

Thanks again for your answer.

#15 Re: Epic Mac Bugs » Several Problems with Very Latest Release… » 2014-06-13 18:01:21

Hello Sai,

thanks for your prompt answer. Now, I understand about the syncing aspect of the forum. For the problem 2, I was feeling (as it's been the case for me) that functionality or reliability of an app running on Mac is not as good as the version running on Windows. Typical example: WebEx and GoToMeeting. This irritates me a lot. We pay the same price as Windows users and still the experience is far less optimal than being on a Windows platform; reasons: missing features! So, that's why I have such an automated reaction when I use an app (also available on Windows) that keeps showing the same bug through subsequent versions. Since, there are a ton of Windows users, it would nearly make sense to not care about the little Mac community. Still in connexion with issue #2, Epic is absolutely perfect for me. The “lack of usability" I mentioned in my earlier post was in connexion with that Umbrella button : not very useful, as I no longer use it! Since the main switch (for me, at least)—that is, yes/no for ad blocking—is not working. But, maybe, because English is not my mother language, I may have expressed myself not correctly. Other than this, Epic has far enough features for me. I don't even care (only for myself of course) about showing PDFs or not inside Epic. I automatically save the PDF (not showing, obviously) by going to the Epic's File menu. I'm a simple guy, not fussy, not too simplistic though. I only complain to make Epic THE very best tool for browsing the web. Of course, I'm very grateful to you and your team and, from my humble view, you make a fantastic job. You should be decorated for helping people being more protected against privacy violation. However, when I have to say something, I say it in the best possible diplomatic way…

Issue 3: (I'll get back to you later)

See you soon and thank you again for following up through my posts.

All the best,

Raphael

Hello,

Problem #1: the fact this forum does not update our latest comment immediately is confusing. Sometimes, I don't know whether my post has reached your server or not, because this forum is not updated within seconds.

Problem #2: Persistent issue from earlier releases of Epic. Sometimes, we do now want Epic to block ads. Unfortunately, Epic under Mac seems to be a byproduct of Windows and is, often, lagging behind in terms of usability. For instance, it is not possible to deactivate ad blocking when going to Umbrella button. The switch remains constantly on "Yes" even though we clicked on "No". Very frustrating. Again, better to be a Windows User than a Mac user. Very frustrating and this issue is now very irritating to the point that I'm beginning to ask myself if it's still worth using Epic as a Mac User!

Problem #3: Persistent issue. Again. Still not solved from earlier releases. Your proxy. I do NOT want to use it and still, Epic forgets my Mac network settings where I have input my own proxy address. For unknown reasons, Epic forget this settings and revert back to Epic's own proxy settings after a certain amount of use of Epic. I have previously highlighted this issue in this forum. But, apparently, the reason probably lies behind I'm a Mac user! No one cares, obviously. Clicking on "Disable Epic Proxy" is not working thus. BTW, I need to click twice this button as this button is not working properly. So, a few times a day, I find myself clicking on this button "Disable Epic Proxy" because Epic reverts back to its own proxy. The problem with Epic if it does not like any third-party web filtering system installed on a Mac.

So, I'm very frustrated about these issues. Is someone going to solve those issues once and for all?

Epic is EXCELLENT, but folks, when are you going to make Mac Epic as good as Win Epic?

Thank you,

Palafox

#20 Epic Mac Bugs » Epic forgets my proxy settings in Apple System Preferences » 2014-05-18 13:47:36

Hello, I'm using Epic version 34.0.1771.0

I have set my own proxy inside System Preferences Panel, but Epic disregard the option “Disable Epic Proxy" after a certain amount of time of use of Epic. The result is a broken red padlock in Epic address bar. I need to go back to Epic preferences and tick again “Disable Epic Proxy”. Under this settings, I should not see any padlock in the address bar.

FYI: the box to tick the option “Disable Epic Proxy” does not work properly. I always need to insist and click twice to make the box ticked. Annoying when you do this 5 times a day!

This is a recurring pesky bug since previous versions of Epic. For Mac users that use a third-party website-filtering proxy, it is very annoying.

Thanks for your support. Hope this problem will be fixed in the next release.
