Been digging into this lately and I'm curious how others are handling it. Most security teams I know are pretty solid on scanning images, checking dependencies, and locking down configs before deployment. But once the app is actually running in production, things get a lot murkier.

A buddy of mine who does AppSec for a SaaS platform was telling me about an incident they had last year. Everything passed their pre-deployment checks – SCA, SAST, image scanning, the whole stack. A few days after a routine update, they noticed some weird behavior in one of their microservices. Turns out a legitimate‑looking dependency they pulled in had a vulnerability that wasn't in any CVE database yet. Someone was already exploiting it in the wild. Their static scans never caught it because there was no signature for it.

That's the gap that keeps me up at night. You can scan all you want before deployment, but once that app is live and handling real traffic, you're basically flying blind unless you have something watching what's actually happening inside it. Container runtime security isn't just about catching known vulnerabilities – it's about detecting anomalies in real time while the code is executing.

I've been looking into solutions that monitor runtime behavior rather than just relying on signatures or CVEs. There are a few out there that actually dig into call chains and library‑level execution to spot anything out of the ordinary. No performance hit, no code changes – just visibility into what's really going on when your apps are running.
