ok, the windows direct download did it finally. For today this made me happy....
My 10x64 is also not finalizing to install Epic. I found the several times mentioned Epic directory in %localappdata% . The only subdirectories I have found were named 1.3.29.13 and installer. It contained Epicupdatehelper.msi and many dll and some exe. That's it. Double clicking the msi it will lead to open a window which will closed too fast to see what is the message. First time I double clicked it, it initiated an update at google??? I tried all the things mentioned above, it doesn't really install, no icon etc. superfast internet connection. Finally, Kaspersky told me, that there is something suspicious going on and disabled me to delete the Epic directory.... arrr. I really not an IT specialist but I have made almost everything to run. I am using Epic since 5 years on my old 8.1 win machine and really would love to continue on my new win 10....
