#1 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » How To Remove Files Goopdate.dll and EpicUpdate From My PC » 2025-04-04 06:34:41

The reason why I uninstalled the app in the first place, was because my anti-virus app kept quarantining the "setup.exe" file with the app, saying that it was infected with "Win32:Evo-gen (Trj)". It could be a false positive, but I didn't understand how Epic Privacy Browser got installed onto my PC in the first place - it wasn't part of the initial apps when I purchased the PC, and I never have used it nor have any reason to.

But I couldn't uninstall the app because the setup.exe being quarantined prevented the app from being uninstalled via Windows settings, and everytime my anti-virus app quarantined the file, I guess the app auto downloaded another setup-exe file to replace it, causing my anti-virus software to quarantine the file 5-6 ties every day, popping up that same alert msg each time, which was highly annoying. So when I couldn't uninstall the app due to the setup.exe being quarantined, I decided to manually delete each file as part of the app file by file, which worked until I got to those last 2 files. So, I've run into a roadblock here.....

Anyhow, I have tried to restore the quarantined setup.exe file but my anti-virus app (AVG) won't allow it, but doesn't give a specific reason why. So I am stumped......it could be AVG quarantining the file that is the reason why that file is shown as being "open/in use", thus preventing me from deleting it.....

Hello, I have a Windows 11 PC - I have managed to manually delete all files of the Epic Privacy Browser from my PC, but in the C:/Users/Lacen/AppData/Local/Epic Privacy Browser/Installer folder there are two files that refuse to be deleted:

goopdate.dll (in Installer folder subfolder "1.3.29.13")
EpicUpdate (an application file)

The error msg I get when I try to delete these files - "File in Use - The action can't be completed because the file is open in Epic Privacy Browser folder Installer."

How do I close these files, and delete them from my PC? With goopdate.dll, I keep getting "assertion fail" error msgs because I have deleted the rest of the Epic Privacy Browser program/app - I would be happy to delete these files as well, but they are preventing me from doing that.

Any help would be appreciated.....
