#1 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » 18 Epic Processes running at all times - even if browser is closed » 2026-04-09 03:48:12

The "Continue running background apps" Toggle: This setting is designed to let lightweight web apps (like messaging or email notifications) stay active in the background after you close your browser windows. Disabling it should stop these specific types of background processes. This setting not staying enabled has been reported by other Epic users.

The Chromium Update Manager: Chromium-based browsers often have a separate system-level process that remains running to silently check for and apply browser updates in the background. It does this to keep your browser secure with the latest patches without you needing to remember to update it. This process typically runs independently of the main browser windows. An official response from the Epic team in their forum pointed to this exact behavior, stating, "Don't worry about Epic background apps. It's update manager works in background to give you the latest updates from us".

This message usually appears when Google detects unusual activity from your IP address, such as rapid automated searches. It could be due to:

Network issues – Multiple users sharing the same IP.

VPN/proxy use – Hiding your real location.

Malware/bots – If your device is infected.

High search volume – Too many quick searches.

Try:

Clearing cookies/cache.

Disabling VPN/proxy.

Scanning for malware.

Waiting briefly before searching again.

If the issue persists, check Google’s support page for help.
