Perfect, thank you!
Hi, we're not sure what's going on with some users following the latest Windows update losing the Proxy, AdBlock or other extensions, but please follow the below steps to get Epic's core extensions back.
Here's a breakdown of the steps:
1. Close the Epic browser to ensure that no processes are actively using the user profile files.
2. Use Windows Explorer to navigate to the specified path: C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Epic Privacy Browser\User Data\Default (replace "user" with your actual username).
3. Within the "Default" folder, locate and delete the following files:
A. Preferences
B. Secure Preferences
These files store user preferences and settings, and deleting them will reset the Epic browser extensions to their default configuration.4. After deleting these files, you can reopen the Epic browser. It should revert to its default state with default extensions. However, any extensions you installed from the Chrome Web Store or other sources will be removed, and you will need to reinstall them manually.
Remember that performing these steps will reset your browser's extensions settings, but it won't affect your bookmarks, browsing history, or other personal data, as they are typically stored separately in the browser profile folder.
Update - I deleted the inhibited old adblocker and as soon as I did so the extension page was then empty except for the link to the Chrome extension page which does not allow me to install the normal VPN or the adblocker that was all working fine before the update. Suggestions please?
When I go to extensions I only have one option - Epic Encrypted Proxy (VPN for the Browser).
When I used to go there there were two options - that one and the adblock/umbrella one.
How do I enable that option now? It seems like the previous version is installed but when I click on it I'm told that "Your file couldn't be accessed".
Should I risk uninstalling the old one that has worked fine until the browser updated?
I'm perhaps answering my own question here but I have found a site very similar to the old one. Instead of putting PP after youtube put ZZ
An example would be www.youtubeZZ.com/watch?v=y6120QOlsfU
When using Youtube and clicking the download button in Epic there is a message displayed stating "YouTube is blocking our servers. You may download YouTube videos via external services. For example, you can type pp after youtube in any YouTube url to get a webpage with download links".
It's been like this for years and for years it's been possible to download any YT content - it's been great. But as of 3 days ago the y2mate site has shut down.
Is there any plan to update the message quoted above with a trusted alternative site instead? It's been so convenient to make downloads without any dodgy software installs, any registration/data farming etc. These types of sites can be notorious for being malicious... I honestly wouldn't have a clue of how to even find a reputable alternative?
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give.
So... yeah.
I managed to get rid of the pop up every time the first Epic window opened but at the cost of disabling Adblock without being made aware that this had happened. But anytime I went to YT each video required waiting for 2 non-skippable adverts to pass - just like it is when using a shoddy, mainstream browser.
Most of the time the installed extensions show that everything is installed and working fine (even though what I experience is that adblock is not working)
Occasionally by looking at the installed extensions it will admit that adblock isn't installed.
I saved the "secure preferences" file before I edited it so I rolled back to the previous unmodded version and uninstalled and reinstalled Adblock but everything remains the same - that is to say that most of the time adblock isn't working and yet the system thinks that it is.
I am *so* confused as to what new absurdity this is or how to fix it. Why couldn't the original fault just have been patched 8 months ago?
I've been asked twice if Windows is upgraded but it's not relevant because the original fault is the same on three different machines - a Win 10 PC fully updated, a Win 7 PC not fully updated and a Win 7 laptop fully updated. Changing OS or status of updates doesn't change the original fault from existing.
For anyone having this issue this was the fix for me from the link supplied by Proxy1.
Hi, I had the same problem and solved it by going to the User\Appdata\Local\Epic Privacy Browser\User Data\Default directory and editing the Secure Preferences file.
I replaced "ojmkmloghldahkpgloknaapbpembjija" with "".
Since the tab no longer appears.
Note - there are 3 instances of "ojmkmloghldahkpgloknaapbpembjija" in the specified file - I guessed to only change the first of the three and it finally works.
Since the start of August 2020 I have been getting a pop-up window open every time I open the first Epicbrowser window on both my Win 10 and Win 7 PCs. The pop-up tab is titled "Adblock plus has been installed" and the contents say "Annoying ads will now be blocked". The address of the page is "chrome-extension://(gobbledegook redacted)/firstRun.html"
This in itself is somewhat annoying - each time I open a window i immediately need to delete the pop-up because it seems like the adblocker always thinks it's being run for the first time?
Is there any solution without deleting the adblocker and making the internet almost unuseable?
Please note - I have posted about this before but after the fault remaining for *eight months* my post has never been approved to show up in forums. Can we please get to the bottom of this fault now? Needlessly closing down pop up windows ~100 times a day for the last 8 months is driving me nuts.
Hi Alok,
Look, it's been *5 months* now and still no fix. Will it ever be fixed?
Hello again Alok,
Do you have any estimate of when this incessant popup bug will be resolved? It's been 2 months now - you said it would be fixed "soon" 6 weeks ago? Surely this is just one line of code to resolve this?
Hey Alok,
It's been a month since we last spoke of the pending update - do you have an ETA for us please?
Thanks!
Thanks Alok,
Much appreciated.
This issue has remained for around 10 days now.
Can someone either acknowledge this problem and assure us that it will be fixed soon or allow us to roll back to the last stable version?
Thanks.
