Epic and OpenDNS and never the twain

At the risk of asking a stoopid question...

I notice the Epic is bypassing OpenDNS's blocking. I like the famliy friendly features of OpenDNS, and I like the protections of Epic too. It occurs to me that since OpenDNS offers the ability to monitor internet usage as part of its protective services, this runs counter to Epic's emphasis on preventing any such monitoring from taking place.

To put it bluntly, I can either use OpenDNS or I can use Epic, but I can't use both, right? Epic is doing something clever to bypass the router's nameserver settings and thus bypass OpenDNS?
