How to access features

Perhaps I am not as computer literate at most here so I need a little help.  First, I can't find anywhere to add icons, such as a home page icon, to the task bar.  Second, a lot of the search links I find refers to a "side bar" with all sort of options. How does one display the side bar?

There's no longer a side bar in epic. 

We had to remove the home page icon due to a privacy issue, but we hope to fix it and restore that button soon.  Sorry about that.  Please try using a new tab dial or bookmark in the meantime.
