Alok, what are the odds of getting an HTML5 viewer as an plugin or within the framework? Also, what's up with spoofing sites for ad-blocking?
OK Alok, thank you for the information and for working on this situation!! I appreciate it!!
No, they just did another. There were several in 2016. But, as you can see, not having a running catalog of the updates leaves everyone wondering. What you can do to be sure you get updated is let the Epic Privacy Browser Installer run in the background (Win 10)... or just allow it from time to time (what I do)... also you can always download the latest client from their download site.
Video links don't want to play. I'm sure the sites have set up some test to prevent people who don't want to give up their privacy from seeing them. Is there a work around? Thank you.
I'll add my thanks for the continued work and the additional proxies also!!
Unfortunately, this has been an ongoing issue here in the forum and on Epic's facebook page. For some reason they don't want to publish the latest version number or catalog the updates.
I did that and it does remember the passwords, however, I still have to type in the account name... previously the account name would be pre-filled and then clicking "Next" would reveal a pre-filled pw prompt, at which time you'd click "Done" and be directed to your gmail account. Now (after deleting the old pw entries) the account name prompt is empty and clicking it gives you the entry I-bar.
Prior to the update, logging into Gmail was as simple as clicking two "buttons"... but now I have to input all of the necessary information. I do have saved passwords. What changed? Thanks.
Well, I think that's a valid question. Considering Epic's continued quirkiness, slow loads, broken video streams, etc., and that's with the main privacy measure - the proxy - turned off, it's just too unreliable to continue with it. There are other privacy browsers, I'll check them out and make my recommendations on this forum. In the meantime, I'll use HTTP everything, and the private browsing windows on chrome. Sorry Epic... you were a good awhile back, but you've become too twitchy, with unreliable proxies, and no updates forthcoming.
I use MSN mail, which is really Hotmail, and I always have to enter the login info manually. None of the other sites require that, so that suggests that MSN won't let pw manager reply to those boxes. As a side note, whenever the proxy changes, gmail will make you confirm your identity by answering security questions, etc.
I'd be willing to bet it's the proxy still. I've been running it without the proxy, and it's still sluggish, but usable. Try shutting off the proxy. Unfortunately, for some sites, i.e., google, et al, Epic insists on using the proxy.
Sathi, I would love to have the option to discontinue the use of the "Multiple Tabs Open" dialog that pops up when I try to close Epic. I typically have multiple tabs open all the time, so requiring the press of another button to simply close the browser is such a bother (I know.. boo hoo... it's just another mouseclick... LOL). What can I say, I'm easily annoyed I guess. Anyway, I think being able to modify, or customize if you will, the behaviors of Epic for the individual user is valuable, and that is the place I'd start at. Thanks. Keep up your worthy efforts!!
Thank you Sathi... We know you guys are hard at work gettin' it done for us, but I figure it's best to report the issues than not. Keep up the labors...they're worth it for those of us who hate spying, tracking, and theft of personal information. I find it interesting that the very companies that fought for "Intellectual Property rights" back "in the day" are the very same ones who are ripping off every shred of data they can get from us!! So definitely keep up the fight Sathi, there are plenty of us that care (still) :-D
Can't even really use the proxy, which is the primary security feature. Unless you have all day to sit while pages loooooaaaaadddddd or just don't load at all, you have to shut the proxy off. When Epic is working properly - it's the BOMB!! but, when it isn't, it's a bit of a pain <grin>
I know they did some sort of update to the proxy, but now, to say it's slow, is an understatement of epic proportions (pun intended..LOL). Also, none of the websites I frequent recognize me and I have to answer all those challenge questions etc... Whattup? Fix to come soon (I hope) :-)
Hi Sathi, no vpn. When I turn off the proxy, the website loads normally, so apparently that is the issue.
Why do I get an error on certain sites, such as "whocalledme.com" and "800notes.com" that says "ACCESS DENIED Your request has been blocked by the OctoNet HTTP filter." What is this? It seems to only appear when I use Epic.
Sathi, Yes, that is the version I'm using.
I have the latest Epic version, and amazon still "ah snaps" in the middle of my usage.
Foxnews.com video page keeps going to "ah snap" page after I watch a video. In some cases, on other websites, videos will not play at all, for example videos on Ello. (BTW, amazon often goes to "ah snap" also)
Thank you. Where do I check? What URL? Thank you.
Since it doesn't update itself, or at least offer to update to a newer version... How can users find out the latest version number to find out if an update is needed? Thank you.
I notice that I can't post pictures to Ello. I'm not sure yet about other content. Is there a way around this? Thanks
Highlighting the current page would help too... thanks!
I hate to say it, because frankly I'm very happy with Epic and what it does... I think it's... well... EPIC! But I still use Chrome for some searches because it's top results typically are what I'm looking for. For example, if I'm researching a person or topic, often wikipedia and similar sites will be listed first. In Epic, I notice that those results are several pages into the search results. Many times, in both browsers, I resort to using images to track down information because I know what I'm "Looking" for and I get the results I'm after quicker than paging through search results. Unfortunately, my experience so far with the bing images is that they are not as complete as the ones I get through the Chrome browser. All that said, I do go through Chrome's settings and delete cookies, etc., and I appreciate that Epic has a button to show me what tracking cookie's are active. Overall, I rate Epic very highly, I think it is evolving with highly concerned people working diligently to improve it and maintain it... and I personally appreciate that greatly... keep up the good work!!
