I've decided to give up on the "Stands" extension and instead am going with what appears to be a very good blocker of unwanted services (as compared to a number of extension tried out) that seems to do an excellent job at blocking a surpizingly large number of unwanted (unnecessary/undesirable) services that in some cases other similar extensions fail to block (including the unwanted items that fail to get blocked by Epic's "native" blocking).
The extension I'm now using also does a very impressive job at providing a great deal of information regarding what does get blocked (far more than many other blockers including origin of undesirable service). The add-on has just one (annoyance) problem however (which many others have as well), which is that in some cases an empty space remains where the blocked item formerly resided on the page. So I'm using another blocker that addresses the empy space that sometimes remains (because this secondary blocker provides so very little details at all on what is getting blocked I'm using the two blockers in tandem). So I continue have the plethora of information regarding blocked items at my disposal that the former extension does such a great job at providing. Fortunately it appears the latter extension is only blocking (addressing) the "empty" space left behind on the page based on the latter extensions activity counter.
My start-page will not load properly unless I have all Unbrella Button options disabled (i.e. set to "NO").
So I set all to "NO" for the website (while on the start-page tab - so that the settings will apply to that specific URL).
But - what I find is that while 3 of the options appear to reliably remain the same value "NO" - the one "HTTPS Prefence" option keeps changing to "YES".
How can I get the Epic Unbrella Button to retain all 4 settings for my start-page as I set them?
Thanks in advance for any feedback.
I hope, at least, someone has an answer to this simple question (as I'm not having much luck getting any replies to a number of topics I've posted over the past month.
It occurred to me that because the Epic browser has a native ad blocker that this might be why the Stands (ad block) extension has problems.
So, I looked into two other (Chrome type) browsers (that would use extension from the Chrome Store, same as Epic) that also have "on board" (native) Ad Blockers, i.e. the Vivaldi and Brave browsers (both of which do their own respective "native" Ad Blocking).
In both of these two browsers (Vivaldi and Brave browsers) I was able to add the "Stands" Ad Blocker (from the Chrome Store) just as I added the same extension to the Epic browser and in both cases the "Stands" Ad Blocker worked seamlessly in these other two (Vivaldi and Brave) browsers.
So if the "Stands" Ad Blocker has no problems with these two other browsers that both use "native" Ad Blockers - then one would logically assume the same "Stands" Ad Blocker should be able to work on the Epic Browser.
Problem is that the "Stands" Ad Blocker does not play well at all with the Epic Browser in as much as virtually all of the extensions settings do not work in the Epic Browser (and as previously mentioned) testing the settings with the Epic Browser Unbrella Button options disabled as well as the Epic browsers VPN disabled as well.
In as much as I've posted several topics all without any replies from anyone on this forum up to this point (the issue with the Epic Icon was because the Icon ".ico" file was missing - why the ".ico" file turned up missing I guess will remain a mystery, but it was easily "fixed" by adding the respective ".ico" file to the location, folder, where it belongs). All other issues remain unresolved as of now and I have to say, I'm at this point not expecting much for this topic either.
Makes one wonder, if there anyone that reads this forum that might know anything about the Epic browser? - better yet, do any Epic "Support" personnal ever look at the forum and contribute? (can't say, based on my own experience, that the forum is much of any help for the most part sorry to say). Hmm, maybe, I'm just reciting to myself in this case once again, as it appears has been the case for all my other topics, sorry to say....
Not that I want to use Google Chrome browser - but just to test this "Stands" Adblocker - I installed the extension on the Chrome Browser and it installed with all the settings automatically all enabled.
I tried disabling and enabling various settings and all worked as they should.
So the extension works as expected on the Chrome Browser.
Now if we can just find out why that same "Stand" extension does not work on the Epic Browser.
On the Epic Browser the "Block popups" was enabled and all other settings disabled. And I'm unable to change any settings from what they were when installed.
The setting will go to "enable" (however the "Block popups", the only one "enabled" cannot be changed) but the next time I view the settings I'll find them all "disabled" - so changes to settings do not (hold) get saved on the Epic Browser like to all do on the Chrome Browser.
Added the "Stands" ad block extension because very large obnoxious ads were getting displayed on Yahoo site.
When I set all of the Stands extension options to "enabled" - they do not hold (all setting revert back to how they were when the add-on was installed) - which means that all settings revert back to "disabled".
Please advise as to what to do to fix this - I've disabled the Epic Umbrella Button for the Stands settings page and tried disconnecting the Epic VPN - and still get the same results.
Thanks in advance.
Point "3)" is resolved - I found that the ".ico" file for the Epic Icon was missing from the folder where it's supposed to be. It has been located in the folder since installing Epic Browser (probably years ago) - so this result begs the question - Why do files disappear from where their supposed to be? I've had the same problem with the native Epic extensions 1) Umbrella Button and 2) Encrypted Proxy (VPN) has disappeared (no longer reside where their supposed to be on both my Win10 and Win7 machines - in fact I gave up on the Win7 machine because these to proprietary Epic extensions keep disappear intalling Epic multipe times.
It was an easy "fix" once I discovered the reason - just copied the ".ico" file from the Win7 machine (thankfully located where it supposed to be) and pasted the file in the folder where it was missing on the Win10 machine, thus "fixed"!
It appears I'm not going to get any feedback on anything I've posted in the forum so far.... I've posted a number of questions and I remain in the dark as far as getting any feedback on this forum (whether the "Not Approved" status of my posts have anything to do with it, I have no idea because I get zero feedback regarding this question as well...
I have to say, at this point I'm frankly disappointed in the level of support that exists on this forum (possible there are legit reasons for this, but absent any feedback I can't say one way or the other).
Installed Epic on Windows 7 OS two times and was able to get the browser to access the network and continue to owrk as far as my personal start-page was concerned.
But beyond that I had issues as referenced below:
Install 1) the Epic native extensions (Umbrella Button and Encryprtion Proxy) displayed the message "unable to find file" (something to that effect) suggesting that perhaps the files were "move" after using the browser for less than 5 minutes.
Install 2) the Epic native extensions did not display as available at all (not available to add to the browser and never at any time displayed as available to add using verious ways to enable them as instructed by Epic).
I was only able to install the "Stylus" extension from the Web Store - but after that I was unable to install any more extensions due to a "Download error: Invalid id" error for all remaining attempts to add extensions. I was able to add a Browser "Theme" however from the Web Store successfully (and did so during and after all the "Download error: Invalid id" errors that persistenly occurred attempting to add extensions.
I tried doing a "Reset" but no help resulted.
Please advise as to why all the problems and whether there are issues attempting to use Epic on Windows 7.
1) I have a topic posted a few days ago - with no responses. It has a status of "Not Approved" posted now 3 days ago. Please advise as to what "Not Approved" represents and if this would be why I'm not getting any responses to this topic.
2) Ther is an option to "stay logged into this forum" (not certain the exact phrasing of the option - but I never "stay logged in" - does this option work? (and if not then why provide an option that does not work?)
3) I've just noticed that the icon that gets added to the Windows Task bar when I use Epic no longer displays the Epic Browser Icon, but rather it is simply a clear non-icon representation that gets displayed. Please advise as to why this has started appearing instead of the Epic Icon.
I'm going to reboot my system - report back subsequent to the reboot to see if this helps regarding the "missing" (blank) Icon when using the Epic Browser.
A reboot didn't help - icon still remains as a "blank page" instead of the "Epic Browser" icon.
If there was a way to post screen-shots - I'd be happy to do so.
The "Continue running background apps when Epic Privacy Browser is closed" option remains "disabled" for me at all times.
If I enable "Continue running background apps when Epic Privacy Browser is closed" - it will not stay enabled.
What to do to get this setting to stay "enabled"?
Just found out that the Epic Browser "System" setting "continue running background apps when Epic Browser is closed" - cannot be "Enabled". Doing so does not stick - I find this option to always be "Disabled" when I navigate to the setting (regardless of my having "Enabled" it the last time I visited the setting the next time I use the browser the toggle displays "Disabled" once again).
I was curious if doing (what did not seem intuitive) would help with the issue discussed in this topic (i.e. enabling this option).
Any way to get this setting to remain "Enabled"?
Also - I notice the "Leave me signed in" to the forum (option, check-box) does not appear to work as I find myself once again logged out the next time use the browser and go to the forum.
I look forward to hearing back from anyone....
Hi,
I have 11 browsers on my computer - Epic is the only browser I have that runs multiple processes at all times even when Epic browser is "closed" (not running). Browsers will generally run multiple processes but only if it is running - is there a reason why Epic should be different than how the other browsers handle this?
I have the Epic Browser "System" setting "continue running background apps when Epic Browser is closed "DISABLED".
I would assume the setting above would not leave all of the 18 processes running.
An estimate of total Memory used by all of the 18 Epic process is minimally 50+MB.
Is there a way to keep the Epic browser process from running all the time?
Also - what is the advantage of having the processes running - I'm assuming the browser will load much faster with the processes running. Is there any other "negative" impact on Epic Browser if the 18 processes are not running? (i.e. - would not running the processes impact the start-page when I start the browser? etc etc).
Thanks in advance.
We'd love to keep you of course...but unfortunately it is imperative the Epic "clean" itself on close. For the future, we'll see about retaining some first-party cookies but it's quite a ways off and would be dangerous to implement as it could be manipulated potentially -- that being said, we understand it's a bit of a pain logging in / resetting preferences.
For now I'd suggest using two browsers (chrome for any sites you want cookies retained for) and Epic for all browsing...or try to put up with the re-setting of preferences for sites in Epic (your privacy is worth it!).
This change should not be that Epic decides what (first-party) cookies Epic will keep after exiting the browser but rather allow the users the option to add to an "allowed" list of sites that they so choose that would retain (first-party) cookies after exiting the browser.
Of course to reduce security concerns you could limit the number of websites that are "allowed" to keep (first-party) cookies after exiting the browser (and even disallow sites that Epic considers not a good idea to keep).
Personally, I could live with just keeping the cookies for just ONE SITE; that being the "start-page" I use for all browsers.
