Yes, good thought, thanks. We do use open dns for the proxy, but encrypting dns queries is also very very important.
We know that's a bit irritating, but because we have no browser history we have added that as a precaution so that you have a chance to cancel closing your browser if you hit that by accident (otherwise all your browsing would be lost).
Yes, sorry we no longer support the sidebar applications. Those features are deleted. It's a different product focus now.
Epic no longer supports typing in Hindi. You can use Google Indic Transliterate though or Lipikaar -- they're both effective.
Sorry about that. We've done that to insure your searches stay private since search is such a personal activity online. We're doing our best to keep the proxy on all the time and are adding new servers!
Fantastic that you're enjoying Epic on your PC. We're also on Mac. We hope to bring it to new platforms like the iPad and Android but have no specific timeline as of yet.
Hi Joe -- thanks so much for trying to help support us. If you change the .com to .co.uk , that should work to support us :-)
Unfortunately to add duckduckgo would be endorsing them and we can't do that. We have had conversations with them about their privacy and it was insufficient for us to support them or work with them and maintain our commitment to privacy.
Soon...but we don't have an exact release date...sorry!
We have spoken with them many times and admire their longstanding work for privacy. Unfortunately we have not received sufficient information to trust their privacy. That's why we haven't added them -- adding a privacy search engine would be like endorsing them and we can't do that at this time. Not them nor duckduckgo.
Fake. Never ever download Epic from any website other than epicbrowser.com
How did you find that website? Do you know who made it?
Wow, that person has some personal issues it seems and very strong opinions about us.
One basic idea that person is trying to get across that it's not possible to be completely private is true -- neither we nor anyone not even TOR can claim that. That doesn't mean you don't try or give up. There are many fingerprinting techniques but it so happens that canvas fingerprinting is the most prevalent one used commercially to track users, so it's the key one to block.
We need to update the FAQ, spotflux no longer powers our proxy and hasn't for quite sometime. They also never collected nor sold any personal data.
We have never sold any personal privacy information ever. In fact, we cut off all our revenues rather than release users' personal information to Google. So that is a complete lie and making such false claims is illegal -- we may try to hold that anonymous commentator responsible if we can figure out who it is.
Great! We continue to add more servers, so hopefully it's even faster.
Yes. We've blocked it.
We do authenticate you via the browser (only through the browser can one access our proxy). We occasionally do record how many different IPs access the proxy as well as bandwidth accessed. That is the extent of the logging we do. We NEVER log or retain your IP address or any websites visited or any other browsing data.
Passwords should mostly be over https so they are not even accessible to the proxy (they're encrypted). Passwords are safer via the proxy on than with the proxy off -- this is because in case the website uses http (which is unlikely), Epic's proxy will encrypt your password so it's never "visible" in the internet.
Tracker blocking is generally independent of the proxy -- though we may block some trackers via the proxy as well later. Do let us know any trackers that are getting by. We'll check into this as well.
Sorry about that, some of our server providers abruptly and arbitrarily turned off some of our servers. We have gotten more servers live so hopefully the service is working for you again.
Sorry about that, it's a chromium issue that sometimes the icon disappears (not related to your firewall or antivirus). Try opening a new tab or a new window and it usually does come up (or restarting the browser). You can also visit a site to check your IP address at anytime to confirm whether the proxy is on or not.
Epic at present adds a bit more security for your financial transactions -- it is locked down so there are no rogue add-ons that can attack Epic which can attack your other browsers. But these attacks at present are not prevalent to our knowledge, though such attacks are easily done.
To delete your account, try logging in and then deleting it via admin options.
It does...thanks for letting us know, we need to re-work our YouTube Ad blocking.
WebRTC should already be disabled in Epic. Do you have any experience that it isn't??
Java is usually click-to-play and should be rarely used by websites these days.
Thanks for the suggestions...we may in the future make it optional or edit-able. I also personally find some weird website names getting auto-filled at times (mostly older sites that are no longer in use), but it's mostly quite helpful for me:-).
Epic has a tab restore if the browser crashes or such. If you shut down your computer without closing Epic, Epic restored your tabs. If you close Epic properly, then tabs are not restored and all related data is flushed/deleted.
We regularly flush the DNS on our servers. We also actually delete the DNS cache on your system if you're in Windows and logged in as an admin (though that is moot if you're using our proxy which would then be making all DNS requests).
A VPN like hotspot shield better protects your IP address because even plugins like Flash will use the VPN's IP address. Unfortunately our proxy doesn't extend to plugins hence the IP leak by Flash.
