Interesting, we have no idea why but this does indicate why it's good to backup before installing etc.

Hi Judy, fantastic that Epic is working well for you!!  So sorry about losing your saved usernames and passwords -- not sure why they got lost with the auto-update -- thank you for letting us know.  We'll fix it.  Glad you have them backed up in another password manager as well.  Good idea to export your bookmarks / passwords periodically as a backup as Proxy1 suggested.
