#51 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » YouTube ads aren't blocked » 2024-06-16 03:54:19

Sorry about that, we do regularly update the ad blocker as sites like YouTube do keep trying to evade ad blockers.  Hopefully it's fixed by now.

#52 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » Does Epic work on Windows 7? » 2024-06-16 03:53:10

Please email Alok and he'll have someone help you.  These may be Win 7 specific issues...but we'll try to help you get all Epic features & extensions working.

#53 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » What Background Apps? » 2024-06-16 03:52:03

Not sure why it keeps reverting back, we'll check into this, but again it's nothing to worry about.

#54 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » 18 Epic Processes running at all times - even if browser is closed » 2024-06-16 03:51:14

No idea why the Epic processes aren't getting killed on close.  That's odd as is this setting issue.  We'll test it.

The default Windows Chromium behavior is that one process does run checking for updates even on close -- so that should be the case for Epic for Windows.  But yes, all the other processes should get killed on close.  It could be antivirus software interfering with Epic or something?!  Odd!

#55 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » Browser doesn't load » 2024-06-16 03:47:59

That is the correct localappdata path in response to an earlier reply.

If you're facing this issue, please try uninstalling / re-installing Epic but first back up your bookmarks & passwords.

For Windows users after uninstalling, please delete any registry entries Epic made and also the %localappdata% Epic folder, then reinstall.

#56 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » browser doesn't work on mac os » 2024-06-16 03:45:58

Please try downloading Epic again but make sure you download the ARM version of Epic.  I'm guessing you accidentally downloaded the Intel version.  It should work fine on your system.

#57 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » Streaming » 2024-06-16 03:45:13

You could try disabling / enabling fingerprinting & adblock protection via the AdBlock button (but that doesn't sound like the issue).

Don't know which settings would affect this but you could also try checking / unchecking "Use Hardware Acceleration" in Epic's settings.

Unfortunately no browser supports every single website and there are quirks we can't control.

#58 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » Downloading videos » 2024-06-16 03:42:25

Sorry we removed the download video option as too many sites kept changing their links and breaking the functionality.  There are many websites & extensions that support video downloading.

We do have a subscription for EpicSearch.in which we highly recommend for extremely private search.

Thank you for your support.

#59 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » Adblock - How to reinstall? » 2024-06-16 03:40:42

Sorry for the late reply.

Epic is a free service so please use it at your own risk.

Some Ad blockers that interfere with or are redundant with Epic's in-built ad blocker are blocked from the Play Store -- so I'd guess that was the issue.  Epic's Ad Block is built on uBlock Origin.  Please try getting Epic's Ad Blocker to re-create itself then enable it and you can add / remove any block lists you'd like.

#60 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » Open links in same tab » 2024-06-16 03:37:43

Epic does that automatically by default.  Otherwise it's controlled by the website -- you may be thinking of Yahoo Search which does open links in new tabs as some other sites do as well.

#61 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » Developers are mining on my video card. The load is always 75-80% » 2024-06-16 03:35:50

Please close Epic then re-start it.  Uninstall any sketchy extensions.  Check your other browsers & any other software you may have installed.  It's less likely it's Epic and something else on your system.

#62 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » Epic Browser No longer Listed As installed Browser on Android 14 » 2024-06-16 03:35:04

No idea what happened Elise.  Sorry about that.  We do have a new update to Epic for Android coming very soon.  Maybe use Epic via our APK which is on our Android Features url:

#63 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » "Download Epic Failed, Retry in X seconds" and nothing installed » 2024-06-16 03:34:05

That's odd that the direct version worked, but not via the online installer.  Unfortunately, I don't think Chromium will continue to support Windows 7 for very long, so you'll likely have to use an older version of Epic as long as you use Win 7.  It's possible to use Epic via WINE on Linux btw.

Correct, that the direct installation process misses automatic updates.  So every few months you can manually update Epic -- but keep the older versions in case any new version doesn't open then you can install an older version which does work on Win 7.

Also, periodically back up bookmarks & passwords just to be safe.

#64 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » Extensions reinstall » 2024-06-16 03:30:07

In the settings /preferences page, try "Reset Epic" then close / re-open Epic a few times.  If that doesn't work, you can delete the Extensions folder in Epic's Default folder...then re-open Epic.  Epic's folders are in %localappdata% in Windows and Application Support on Macs.

#65 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » Fingerprinting options & details do not work » 2024-01-11 11:41:23

No, Epic is probably working fine and thwarting fingerprinting.  Epic rarely now blocks techniques but rather offers randomness data so that your fingerprint will be inconsistent.  We switched to this tactic so as not to break websites which is increasingly happening if you block fingerprinting functions outright.  Note that Epic's ad & tracker blocking does still block many fingerprinting scripts.  Our fingerprinting protections however rarely block functions but rather add randomness into them.

#66 Re: General » Updated Version with Encrypted Proxy More Important Than Ever » 2023-12-08 21:47:04

Yes, Epic's latest update with a new, stable encrypted proxy network is live :-).

#67 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » Browser doesn't load » 2023-12-08 21:35:43

Please try deleting the "default" folder in the Epic folder in %localappdata% (type that in a Navigator Window).

If that doesn't work, you can try deleting registry entries then uninstalling and reinstalling Epic.

Please always back up passwords and bookmarks before trying any of the above.

If none of that works, please email Alok directly for help:  alok at hiddenreflex dot com

#68 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Privacy Features & Privacy Concerns » Vpn not showing » 2023-12-08 21:33:18

Hi,

Please try resetting Epic via the settings / preferences page.  If that doesn't work try these steps:

1. Close the Epic browser to ensure that no processes are actively using the user profile files.

2. Use Windows Explorer to navigate to the specified path: C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Epic Privacy Browser\User Data\Default (replace "user" with your actual username).

For Macs, navigate to the Epic folder in Application Support

3. Within the "Default" folder, locate and delete the following files:

A. Preferences
B. Secure Preferences
These files store user preferences and settings, and deleting them will reset the Epic browser extensions to their default configuration.

4. After deleting these files, you can reopen the Epic browser. It should revert to its default state with default extensions. However, any extensions you installed from the Chrome Web Store or other sources will be removed, and you will need to reinstall them manually.

Remember that performing these steps will reset your browser's extensions settings, but it won't affect your bookmarks, browsing history, or other personal data, as they are typically stored separately in the browser profile folder.

#69 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Privacy Features & Privacy Concerns » Epic Browser Major Leaks » 2023-12-08 21:32:24

The latest versions of Epic do not block requests or header data or such which can break many sites...instead Epic adds noise to the values it returns so that it can't be reliably fingerprinted.  In other words, there will be different values for different sessions to thwart fingerprinting attempts.  This is how the latest anti-fingerprinting protection works in Epic.  Some old sites such as that can say that those functions work in Epic but won't realize that Epic's randomizes the data.

#70 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Privacy Features & Privacy Concerns » About your browser security » 2023-12-08 21:29:19

Please try registering with the encrypted proxy off and or try disabling ad blocking and fingerprinting protection via the umbrella button.  They may be interfering with the site's functioning.

#71 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Other Feature Requests & Ideas » REQUEST FOR IMPROVEMENT OF THE E. P. B. FORUM ITSELF » 2023-12-08 21:19:17

Sorry that's a setting that posts are unapproved until manually approved due to spam in the forum.  Will make sure we approve all posts more regularly.

#72 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Other Feature Requests & Ideas » Block Javascript please! » 2023-12-08 21:18:07

Note that Epic supports extensions so that there's a lot of flexibility now in terms of JS management including tools built-into Epic's Ad Blocker.

#73 Re: Privacy News, Privacy Violations, Privacy Discussions » New Indian law requires VPN data collection » 2023-12-08 20:46:13

It's working fine for us.  Check that your Epic got updated and or please try switching the country via the top right proxy icon.

#74 Re: Privacy News, Privacy Violations, Privacy Discussions » Russia? » 2023-12-08 20:44:50

Hi Matt,
Thank you and we understand your ethical concerns.  This is great that you'd be willing to pay more to support companies that support your ethical principles.  Unfortunately Microsoft 4x'ed the prices this year...so now it would be over $60/month for 5,000 searches :-(.  So it's probably economically not feasible to offer a Bing-based subscription at present :-(.  We'll keep your objection and thoughts in mind though :-).

#75 Re: Epic Mac Bugs » VPN filter file has disappeared on macOS Mojave version 10.14.6..... » 2023-12-08 20:41:41

Please check the Extensions page to see if the VPN and AdBlock extensions are there and enable them.

If they're not there, try "Reset Epic" via the Settings / Preferences page then close / re-open Epic.

if that doesn't work, you can try these steps to re-create them:

1. Close the Epic browser to ensure that no processes are actively using the user profile files.

2.  Open Application Support by pressing option and clicking on the "Go" option in the top menu.  Go to Application Support then Hidden Reflex then Epic then Default.

[for windows, Use Windows Explorer to navigate to the specified path: C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Epic Privacy Browser\User Data\Default (replace "user" with your actual username).]
