#1 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » Cannot Access Epic Search and Google Even With Proxy Disabled » 2015-12-02 13:17:32

Search engines HAVE to run over the proxy or they'll fail...that's because we consider search privacy essential...so if the proxy is down, search won't work.  Was a kind of compromise we made.

We had that captcha for awhile as we were under attack :-| at that time...

#2 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » Outlook/hotmail » 2015-12-02 13:09:56

No easy cure...we're working on a full update to fix this, will *hopefully* be released in about a week...sorry for the delay!

#3 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » Browser stopped working using proxy Server » 2015-12-02 13:09:16

No way to change proxy servers manually, can only close/re-open Epic.

#4 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » Browser stopped working using proxy Server » 2015-12-02 13:07:51

Try turning the proxy off.  It may be that your mail service is detecting you as being somewhere unusual (because of our proxy) and blocking access.

#5 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » HELP ME (or not as the case may be) my virus is broken! » 2015-12-02 13:03:56

Great that Epic was at least initially not susceptible to it.  Epic does not allow any rogue extensions so that's why zoek couldn't at least initially get into Epic.

If someone is doing a targeted attack against you, then there's no point working on Epic or some other browser because they could compromise software in many ways if they're in your system already.  You probably need to run a VM or run a system like Tails from a USB drive.  You need a new machine/o.s. then within that run a browser.  That would be my suggestion.

#6 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » Typing in Regional Languages with Epic Browser » 2015-12-02 13:00:45

Sorry, that functionality isn't supported anymore in Epic.  You can use Google Indic Tools though.

#7 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » In windows 8 64 bit installation not completing » 2015-12-02 13:00:14

Please type in an Explorer Window %APPDATA% and check the Local folder for a folder called "Epic Privacy Browser".  If it exists, then Epic likely did get installed in your system and is there for you to open.  If it doesn't exist, then it didn't get installed.

We have a new update coming out next week, it may be best to wait for its release then to try re-installation.  You can also always email us.  Thanks!

#8 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » Epic Search not working » 2015-12-02 12:58:46

Sorry about that, was probably a temporary issue, epicsearch.in should be working fine.  Please let us know if there are still any issues.

#9 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » Change the Proxy » 2015-12-02 12:58:12

Yes, at this point, every instance/window/tab will use the same proxy server.  Though if you close/re-open Epic, it may switch to a different proxy server.

#10 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » Frustrated. Hotmail keeps giving me "aw, snap!" » 2015-12-02 12:57:36

Update -- as usual chromium is proving difficult, so we hope to have the full updates out next week...surely before Christmas :-)!    That should solve this issue.

#11 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » How to change the search engine in the omnibox » 2015-12-02 12:56:46

Hi Eris, thanks so much!!  Right now we're not earning any revenues from search, BUT it's totally private :-)!  We hope to have a new deal soon though & a better search feed too!!!

#12 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » Windows 8 64 bit don't run the installer (being approved) » 2015-12-02 12:55:57

Sorry about this issue.

Can you via an Explorer Window, type %APPDATA% and check in the Local folder if there's a folder called "Epic Privacy Browser" ?

Via that we can know if Epic has been installed or not on your system.

#13 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » Possible to change search engine? getting false results » 2015-12-02 12:51:00

We don't support changing the search engine at this point. The reason is we don't trust any other search engine even so-called private search engines.

We strongly recommend continuing to use Epic Search and we'll hopefully get a better search feed soon.

Sorry for the inconvenience but if we added other search engines it would indicate that we "trust" them to some extent which we're just unable to do right now.  We'll post more on why we don't trust others soon!

#14 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » Skype Web Version no longer working » 2015-12-02 12:49:08

We suspect that Microsoft is doing the same thing with Skype that's making Outlook also crash.

We're working on a complete update to Epic which we hope to release next week.  Partial updates didn't fix the Outlook issue.

We're sorry for the delays & need to be more responsive here, but we do continue to support Epic and are hard at work...lot of challenges for a small team supporting tens of millions of daily website visits from hundreds of thousands of monthly users which are growing.

#15 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » Need Help With Hotmail !!! » 2015-12-02 12:46:43

We're working on this...sorry for the delay, chromium is hard to work with & we're a very small team.  We expect both Mac & Windows updates to be out around the end of next week.

#16 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » Webpages doesn't open or load (being approved) » 2015-12-02 12:45:44

Sorry we're a bit behind in the updates...they're nearly ready, we think both Mac & Windows will be out next week.  We'll be ahead of Chrome in chromium support for the first time ever actually...

#17 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Other Feature Requests & Ideas » Shopify login » 2015-11-09 11:37:42

Can anyone help?  We're not sure -- but one suggestion is to try turning off the proxy.  Shopify may detect you're logging in from a strange place and block logging in via the proxy.  Maybe also turn of block ads/trackers via the umbrella button for shopify as well.

#18 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Other Feature Requests & Ideas » Epic privacy Browser crashes » 2015-11-09 11:35:02

Hotmail is doing something strange and causing problems in Epic.

Sorry about that.

We're working on a full update to fix this issue -- we hope to have it released next week.

#19 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Other Feature Requests & Ideas » Epic give Aw Snap error when trying to load outlook.com » 2015-11-09 11:10:34

Yes, Hotmail's started doing something strange.

It looks like there's no quick fix so we're working on a full update which should be out next week to solve this issue.

#20 Re: Privacy News, Privacy Violations, Privacy Discussions » Is it in any way possible to deactivate all scripting? » 2015-11-09 11:09:34

Yes.  In the Settings page, Under Privacy, click on Content Settings, then set Javascript to "never allow".  You can put white-listed websites in the exceptions.

We should add NoScript or a similar extension to the allowed extensions for Epic.  We have not integrated such functionality into Epic because almost so many websites depend on Javascript so it's impractical/difficult to use.

Good thought about integrating turn off/on javascript in the umbrella button.  That would be nice, but we feel it would see very little usage so it's a low priority at this point.

#21 Re: Privacy News, Privacy Violations, Privacy Discussions » LogicIron Privacy Browser » 2015-11-09 11:05:51

Yes, we wish we could have both those websites taken down...they're run by some malicious entities who will install malicious software on your system if you install their software.

#22 Re: Privacy News, Privacy Violations, Privacy Discussions » Epic browser v/s Chrome incognito mode » 2015-11-09 11:05:03

Epic actively blocks thousands of data trackers.
Epic has a built-in encrypted proxy which can encrypt your data so your ISP / government / company can't see it.
Epic has removed all google tracking.
Epic deletes your DNS cache on close -- if you're browsing in incognito mode, your browsing is easily visible even after you close that incognito window via the DNS cache.
Epic blocks fingerprinting tracking like via canvas image data and webrtc calls which can leak your IP address even if you're on a VPN or our encrypted proxy.
Epic blocks add-ons except for a small set of trusted add ons in our webstore -- so Epic is protected from rogue add ons which can install without your knowledge and both track you as well as steal your passwords in a browser like chrome.
And there's even more...:-)

#23 Re: Epic Windows Bugs » Launching Windows 8 More in Windows 10 » 2015-11-09 11:01:29

We're working on a complete update to Epic to fix this.  Thanks for letting us know & sorry about these problems.

Please write us anytime if you face any problems like uninstalling/reinstalling and you need to back up bookmarks and passwords.  We could have helped you do that.  It's also posted in one of our older blog posts on the Auto Re-pinning issue.  We'll make a separate blog post on backing that data up as well.

#24 Re: Epic Windows Bugs » EPIC Browser for Macbook Air » 2015-11-09 10:58:45

Hi Dona, sorry about this issue, no idea why it isn't working.  We will have a new update out for the Mac in 3 weeks or so we expect.  That one may work for you.

Do websites other than facebook work?  Have you tried turning the proxy on and off?

Also, please email Alok directly for help, he may be able to help you troubleshoot this issue.  His email is alok at hiddenreflex dot com

#25 Re: Epic Privacy Browser - Help & Troubleshooting » How to change the search engine in the omnibox » 2015-11-09 10:54:41

We haven't added any other search engines including Startpage.com and Duckduckgo.com because they have not provided sufficient information to us despite dozens of queries to both of them regarding their privacy.

Again, we thus do not trust that they are private.  That's why we have not added other search engines ESPECIALLY not search engines that purport to be private.  Any search engine that is built-into Epic one would assume is private (unless it's google or bing of course), but we can not vouch for the privacy of any other search engine.

Again, we have tried repeatedly to validate the privacy of other private search engines but they refused to answer our questions which leaves us highly doubtful of their privacy.

On the good side, we are working on getting a better search feed to hopefully have better search results soon.

When you use Epic our promise to you is a very high level of privacy from a team absolutely committed to privacy and with transparency & integrity.  We will never compromise on this and please don't ask us to.
